After months of daily use, I've distilled the prompting patterns that consistently deliver excellent results. Saving this one for your team.



1. Give Claude a role + context first ❌ "Write a marketing email." ✅ "You are a senior B2B copywriter. Write a cold outreach email for a SaaS tool targeting HR managers at companies with 50–200 employees. Tone: direct, no fluff."

2. Specify the format you need ❌ "Summarize this article." ✅ "Summarize this article in 5 bullet points, each under 20 words, written for a non-technical executive audience."

3. Use constraints to sharpen output ❌ "Give me content ideas." ✅ "Give me 10 LinkedIn post ideas for a B2B cybersecurity brand. No listicles. Each idea must include a counterintuitive angle and a hook line."

4. Ask for reasoning, not just answers ❌ "Is this strategy good?" ✅ "Evaluate this go-to-market strategy. List 3 strengths, 3 risks, and 2 alternatives. Think step by step."

5. Iterate with precision ❌ "Make it better." ✅ "Rewrite the second paragraph to be more urgent. Keep the same word count. Don't change the CTA."

6. Use Claude as a thinking partner, not a vending machine ✅ "I'm deciding between two pricing models. Here's my reasoning so far: [X]. Challenge my assumptions and tell me what I might be missing."

The rule of thumb:
Role → Context → Task → Format → Constraints
That 5-part structure alone will put your prompts in the top 10%.
